Video: Exploring Gender Differences in the Workplace

Today’s blog is a video interview with Tami Heim, Partner at the A Group and former President of Borders Books. I was interviewing her about gender differences in the workplace and she actually turned the tables and began to interview me! I hope you find our discussion useful.

This video is a clip from Leadership2Go, an online leadership development program. To see more, visit www.leadership2go.com.

To see more of this interview, check out the second part of this post, “Exploring Gender Differences in the Workplace, Part 2.”

Tim, this is so excellent.  My heart is heavy about how women are blocked in church leadership. I wish with all my heart that male pastors & church leaders could hear this.  If they could recognize the emotional factor that you speak of and if they were secure enough in their own strengths, perhaps they wouldn’t work so hard at blocking women in leadership.

Thanks for the comments, Kaye. Great insights!

This is powerful! If only people (men and women alike) could stop jockeying for the top spot and realize that everything would be better if we’d capitalize on the strengths of each person. We’d have great places to work.

Wounded self esteems play a big part in the one-upsmanship, like you said. So, in the world where not everyone has a healthy self-esteem, we’ve got to work toward healing those battle wounds.

Agreed. Great point, Kim. Sometimes healing is required before real progress can be made. Recognizing the wound is the first step to treating it.
