Today I want to take a moment to highlight an incredible organization that works directly with the next generation. They do an amazing job combining fitness, leadership and character development in a fun event that engages students. They are a great example of the EPIC approach I recommend we all use to effectively lead Generation iY.
For nearly ten years, the Boosterthon Fun Run team has been serving schools across America with an innovative approach to school fundraising. Where most fundraisers rely on products to be sold, the Boosterthon Fun Run provides a fun fitness event where students gather pledges from friends and family. Boosterthon Fun Run schools improve their fundraising efforts, on average, by 70%. To top it off, the Boosterthon Fun Run team is on campus for the entire nine day program motivating the students with character and fitness lessons. They also ensure the program is hassle-free for teachers and administrators.
The Boosterthon Fun Run is a great event but they believe it’s time to make a deeper impact in the area of kids’ health. The Boosterthon Fun Run is partnering with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to fight for the kids of Georgia—the 2nd worse state for childhood obesity. The Strong4Life Challenge is the new initiative formed from the Boosterthon/CHOA partnership. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta launched Strong4Life with the purpose of promoting wellness to Georgia’s kids. The Challenge is a motivational, grassroots campaign designed to get students excited about healthy living. The Strong4Life Challenge puts enthusiastic “fitness role models” on school campuses to educate kids about getting exercise, drinking water, and limiting screen time. The world-class wellness resources of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the motivation of the Booster team are the perfect ingredients for communicating the message of healthy living.
The Strong4Life Challenge is currently being developed at schools around Georgia. A full launch into more Georgia elementary schools is expected in Fall, 2011.
I love what Boosterthon is doing to develop the next generation – both physically and through character development. If you or someone you know are looking for a creative fundraiser for your school, I encourage you to take a look at what Boosterthon is doing to provide EPIC leadership development for the next generation.
