Director of Development

The Director of Development leads our efforts to build and cultivate thriving relationships with donors, foundations and corporate sponsors who want to help bring Growing Leaders’ events and training resources to under-funded schools and organizations in the United States and around the world. This position reports to the Vice President and will also work hand-in-hand with the President to grow our community of generous partners who want to move the needle of history by raising up a new generation of young leaders.


  • Work with the President and Vice President to develop and implement innovative strategies to generate funding to support the Growing Leaders Initiative
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with current and prospective donors
  • Oversee the planning and execution of all fundraising events
  • Work with the Vice President to create and execute a strategy to build a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Oversee staff in charge of gift processing and receipting
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Assess the current fundraising processes and strategies, and where needed, design and implement new processes and strategies to build and engage the donor base
  • Manage the use of DonorPerfect Fundraising Software and ensure accurate giving records and donor notes
  • Analyze the current donor base data to uncover new opportunities and better understand how to align giving opportunities with donor preferences and passions
  • Produce promotional videos, annual reports and print marketing for the organization
  • Oversee domestic and international program implementation in grant recipient schools and organizations served by the Initiative including data collection to measure outcomes


  • College degree
  • A minimum of three years experience in a fundraising role
  • Demonstrated excellence and success in cultivating relationships through strong communication and people skills
  • Successful history of setting and achieving goals through innovative fundraising and marketing strategies

Work Schedule:

  • Regular business hours during the week in our office with some nights and weekend for events as needed
  • Travel is expected of this position (potentially averaging 1-2 trips per month)
